I have been invited up there to fish for kings two times and have never taken them up on it.  They even have access for me some place on the river.  Is it worth the weekend to go up there an fish?  Or do you have to know when the fish are in jso it will be action packed fishing?

one day this past september, from daybreak till about 930, i landed 13 kings and 2 silvers, not counting how many hits i had.... if you are there on the right day, you will catch more fish in a few hours than most people catch all season.... the fishin on the samish can be so good, it doesnt make owning a boat worth it.... yeah, there is "public access".... it can be comparable to fishing in alaska.

when they are there, the fishing is insane... best fishing river in all of washington

snag as many as you want... a 40lbs salmon hooked in the side still fights like a 40lbs salmon hooked in the mouth... either way, in a super small river like the samish.... you get called a hero if you can land it! if you are against snagging, toss it back!!! i caught plenty hooked in the mouth... 1/2 a pink steelhead worm on a 4/0 hook will land you plenty of chums and silvers, and a mini lime green corkie and a strand of yarn still gets plenty of kings. i guess its cuz i fished every day of september, and most of october and averaged 5 fish a day.... i got pretty selective on what i kept and what got released... somehow i still managed to put about 100lbs of king in the freezer

catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.

So your little group of "fishermen" thinks it is cool to snag 40lb kings, yet you put up signs to keep the "trashy fishermen" out? That makes a lot of sense

Give em enough rope! :chuckle:

I know that most fisherman exaggerate to a certain extent, it's the flat out liars that bug the chit out of me. I am a stickler for the truth myself, so I usually just tell it like it is, or say nothing. I always tell my friends the truth. About the biggest lie you'll hear me say is if a fish is between 10 and 11 lbs on the scale I'll say 11. I always round up.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

I caught plenty "in the mouth" too. As a matter of fact I didn't catch one that wasn't in the mouth. Snagging them in the face is the same as snagging them in the side. Let's be real kings rarely BITE corkie and yarn and from the sounds of it your the "line bump" guy. Personally I'd rather catch one fish that willingly bit rather than 30 in the side. There's a reason I won't venture to places like the samish anymore and its the "fisherman" like you jeepster.

I am confused about the above law and how many lbs of salmon one can possess in your freezer? i fish ID alot and I can retain far more 40lbs of salmon per catch card and WA

I believe it is referring to processed fish that is being transported.

Maybe put up a sign like "Pack out your trash" or something like that would be better than putting up fake "no trespassing" signs.  :twocents:
If its public then a "locale" or anyone has just as much right to fish there in "our hole". :bash:

GreyWolf this is so very true! I believe we are all guilty of having one but some must boost theirs by bragging about them selves to everyone else.

As far as putting up no trespassing signs on public land that is just plain wrong. I grew up on the west side and know all to well how a river can be ruined by people. Just for example the Skok used to be a great place to go and catch kings until one day (years ago) the Tacoma News tribune put in that it was red hot now cars and trucks line the roads and people trash the river and the banks. I have seen countless threads on other sites trashing the locals for being low class trash that dont know how to use indoor plumbing. The people who frequent the river now are slobs to say the least. The last few times I have fished it there is more trash along the river bank than ever before and the amount of people is some spots one would think they were on the Russian river in Alaska snagging sockeye.

When I was growing up we used to go out and maybe see 1 or 2 other people out fishing and they were locals the river banks were a lot cleaner and there was a lot more space to fish it was a better time but we all have to face the facts that there is less room for everyone to fish and just because you grew up fishing a river does not make it your river! We were all taught to share in kindergarten and if everyone can remember that than we will all be able to enjoy the outdoors!
