First yakima turkey

Well ive been wanting to kill a gobbler in yakima county for a few years now, but this year i made it a goal. Had to work yesterday on the opener but had today and tomorrow off. Headed up the road from the house a little late this morning and it was pretty much light when i arrived at where i wanted to try.
Headed down the hill letting out locaters every hundred yards or so with no replies. I got into the area where i expected the turkeys to be and didnt couldnt get anything to answer, seems like the same problem i always have with these yakima county birds. Well i was in there for about 45 min with no replies when i started to get into scratch marks and scat, perfect i thought. kept on walking but still no replies, i was almost ready to give in and i let out a gobble with the shaker tube and bam, turkey gobbled back at me probably 200 yards off. I sat down by a little stump and let out some clucks and purrs, nothing. Hit the gobble shaker again and bam answer! Did a few more soft hen sounds with no answers and let it rest for about 10 min. I yelped after that and instant gobble and he was alot closer. i continued to do soft sounds and he never gobbled again but i knew he was coming. Pretty soon i saw movement in the brush and here he came on a string, a few soft soft sounds had him in my lap and i let him have it at about 15 yards.
Normally wouldnt have shot a jake, but my goal was to kill a bird in yakima county and i couldnt pass it up. I was solo this trip and still have another tag and a trip planned to colville next weekend with a buddy.
On the way up i was thinking, man there should be some horns in here and i looked up and found this.
after i toook the pic i turned around and found the chewed off point laying on the ground about 10 feet away.

Congrats on a fine Yakima Jake! Good luck in the NE! Gotta like the two tag system!
One of my hunting partners bagged a Tom in the NE this morning and called from town as he was buying another tag!

Congrats! I know how difficult the Yakima area birds are. I also took a jake about 6 yrs ago after being frustrated for 4 or 5 years and coming close and going home empty
. Good job and good luck next week.
