Hood liner?

So i've got a 2001 dodge 1500 that the hood liner keeps falling down. Most of the spots that hold it up with the plastic clips have been pulled out and doesn't stay up very well. Do I need to keep this in or can I just take it out? Neighbor says it's for noise and since it's gas engine not going to make any difference. Anyone know? Thanks.

I'd say it is not mandatory to keep it, but it does probably serve some purpose. Another thought for you.. Stop by Napa, and spend a few bucks on some new clips.

I removed one from a old car I owned and the hood oxidized within a year im guessing from the heat you might want to replace the clips

I guess I should have clarified a bit more the clips are still there and are fine, the hood liners holes are ripped out so the clips can't hold it anymore.

Pick your truck from the list and then in the box at the bottom search "insulator". It will damage the paint on your hood for sure if you just take the liner out and you will hear more engine noise too.

for a temporary fix just put some squares of black duct tape where the holes are and punch the clips thru ,and yes leaving it off will effect the paint

Neither of my vehicles has a liner on the hood and I don't have any troubles with the paint. I'd say save the hassle and scrap it.

Pick up some short, self drilling/tapping sheet metal screws and some fender washers. Move off to one side of the hole and put a screw up into the support structure with a fender washer on it. It works better than the plastic junk.
