2012 opener a good one
« on: April 21, 2012, 08:42:20 AM »
My daughters first longbeard.  Got settled at about 5:15 and waited until shooting time.  15 hens flew off the roost and lit around the jake decoy about 10 mins after I started to call.  They didn't like something and wandered off over the hill where more hens and the toms had flown down.  We decided to wait them out.  About 1/2 hour later the toms started to gobble again and the old boss hen was really cutting loose.  I sarted yelping back at her and she led the whole mob back up the hill.  A bunch of hens and jakes walked up within 20 feet.  My daughter said "There's a big tom all puffed up coming up the hill"  We waited another minute or so and got to watch the show as he came right up.  She whacked him at 29 yards at 6:30 on the opener!

Good Job!  Nice bird!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!!"
