Yeah thats what I am saying ...last time I was there I walked at least 3 miles up the power line and was chased by a maniac on a 4 wheeler
We swore up and down he owned the whole power line .... I finally told him to call the sheriff , the warden and I do not give a rats ---....... and come to find out as long as you are on the power line and not crossing fences it is perfectly legal.... but that was many years ago ....do not bother with that sheet anymore ....I will go east and enjoy my hunt

Wish I had a nickle .... been there, done that, never got the t-shirt. I guess that locked gates with the signs that say "NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES PAST THIS POINT" applies to everyone but them. They don't realize one of the reasons the gate is locked is that it's turkey breeding season and they don't want the nesting hens disturbed. Usually the first to complain about declining populations. Did you know everyone in Northport owns at least one ATV, but no one owns helmets.
The last time an Eastern taught me a lesson was late season up the Skook ... Hiked in about a mile before I setup on the gas line on one side of a 1 ft wide creek (although initially was going to set up on the other side), immediately called in a nice big tom who had to come in on the other side and refused to step or fly across it. Instead strutted and gobbled for better than an hour before he retreated. Guess I forgot to have my yelper helper.

Last road before the dam, go to the top of the hill, take a right, about 8 miles in there are more turkeys than anyone knows what to do with. Forget about the hammered toms on the gas and powerlines, these area easier birds. If you have the legs to make it that far. Good luck! And another little secret, If you can locate Agnew property off of end of little hanaford road. Again about 8 miles in, near the gravel pit, tons of birds there. Probably permissiion to go up there. As for winery, there are 2 deputys, one from Thurston, one from Lewis hunting there and the adjacent property, so word to the wise, you better be able to out run a radio! 2 guys got arrested there yesterday! One of them is a good friend of mine, and he wont even let me tag along.

I'm going to throw my
in here as well, although I am looking for tips to get an Eastern too. I'm tagged out on merriams, and would like to go after an Eastern for the first time. I'v read the suggestions above and seems like a good place to start. Any additional tips and tactics or places to go I would appreciate. I'v heard that the birds are skittish, shy, and quiet. Are all those rumors true? Feel free to Pm me about places and hunting tactics, I am willingly to return info on hunting merriams in stevens county and the coluckum in exchange for those interested.
