Nevada draw
« on: April 27, 2012, 07:15:56 PM »
I have been really looking into putting in for nevada.  I know it is not easy to draw and is one of those states that if i do draw that would be great, but i dont know yet if i would rank it up there with the ones i have been acquiring points in.

My question is has anyone ever known someone to draw without doing the point system?   I see that you can put in for only the application fee, or you can buy a license and put in and start acquiring points if not selected.  I was thinking of maybe leaving it to luck and just going the cheap route but dont know if it is even concievable to think i may draw this way.

I was under the opinion tags go to highest point holder first so I'm pretty sure it would be a waist of money

Nevada has a bonus point system much like WA has.

I have seen guys on MM say that they have drawn with no points but most are residents.

I think if a guy put in for archery, muzzy, or maybe even some of the early rifle tags you would have a decent chance of drawing a tag with no points.

It is a point system in Nevada, but you can also still have a random chance of drawing in their system. Your odds are lower, but it's still possible!

I grew up in Nevada and many times you needed points and others you didn't. My first elk tag I didnt have any. My 2nd antelope tag I had 7 before I drew. This year is my first year applying as a non resident so I'm not holding my breath on a tag. If I were you and planned on applying every year I would keep points. This years deadline has passed so good luck in the future.

I don't have the printouts in front of me, but if you are a NR about the only thing you could expect to draw with no points would be a few of the archery deer tags.  Anything else and you would probably have no reasonable shot.

NVs point system is exactly like WAs, bonus points are squared and when your name is drawn they go through your choices until and one of them is available.

Too late for points this year, but if you are going to next year, make sure you get your Hunter Ed stuff in the system well before the deadline.

Unit: 231,241,242 Non Resident -ELK

*2010 Bonus Point Summary
Points   Succ.   Unsucc.
0 Points   0   87
1 Points   2   76
2 Points   0   71
3 Points   0   61
4 Points   0   57
5 Points   0   40
6 Points   0   46
7 Points   1   41
8 Points   0   36
9 Points   0   19
10 Points   0   18
11 Points   1   8
12 Points   0   7
13 Points   0   3
14 Points   0   1
15 Points   0   1
16 Points   0   0
17 Points   0   0
18 Points   0   1

As you can see above, with regard to points in NV, it is truly random. You can have the most points in a specific unit for a specific weapon, but that does not mean you will draw out. In 2010, two guys with one point drew the LE TAG!
