2007 Weyerhaeuser Map of Toutle 556 Notes
« on: August 04, 2008, 04:30:35 PM »
I was looking at the 2007 map and see that since the 3000 line is inside of the public land, it is not mentioned on the map. Neither are any roads inside of the public lands. Also, when you look at the confluence of the North Fork of the Toutle and Alder Creek, the boundary line is drawn a little down stream, but the boundary is at that junction.
Also the legal description says "South along Johnson Creek". The creek actually flows almost due west to the Toutle.

Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

One other note: Along the boundaries, there a lot of gates marked on the map. There are several main lines through the Toutle unit that show gates. It looks like it will be a challege navigating while scouting. Some long detours to get where you want to go.

Get an updated DNR map of the state land around Signal peak. Call the Castle Rock office they should be able to help you with any updates to the toutle river ridge/signal peak map.

I have the latest and greatest DNR map. I drew a hilighted boundary on the map by going through the reg sentence by sentence. Phrase by phrase.
I went down today and had a peek. Fishermen and hikers were there.
Saw some elk. I plan to return in October when we have open gates on the weekends. Nice country. Roads were in okay shape.  I have topographic/satellite maps that I can display side by side and in 3d. I plan to download the GPS with areas driven and points marked. Then plan to research other areas. I am working on locating meadows that are out of sight of the roads and explore some of those.  Planning takes a lot of time. Next time I plan to stay overnight. Round trip driving just to the Toutle GMU approached 6 hours from the house.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.
