I can't sleep!
« on: May 04, 2012, 12:09:21 AM »
The rods are ready and the line is fresh...
The hooks are sticky and the bait is fresh...
The barbs are pinched and the leaders are cinched...

The pots are in repair and the ropes are fair...
The chum is good and the yellow buoys have air...

My licenses are bought and my knots are taut...
I cant wait for the lings and the shrimp to be caught!!!

How did it work out? I had a great day, hit the trifecta. Except both lings were over size and had to be released. Shrimp overflowing, worst part was throwin back those fatties after getting 71 in the 1st trap and filling our limits on the second pull. Limit of shimp and clams! Bout a dozen quilbacks and the two lings. Calm water, decent weather, and good table fair, what more can you ask for? One of the lings was the biggest I've seen, could have easily fit a basketball in it's mouth. Hooked into a fish that I couldn't pull off the bottem, fought hard for over 20 minutes but there wasn't anything I could do, eventually it bite through the leader. Never got it more than half way up so I didn't get to see it, acted like a ling but never saw so I can't say for sure. One the funnest days on the water ever! Feastin tonight! Can't wait for Friday, there's a slot fish with my name all over it!

I wish I could say the same.  Shrimp pots were robbed, boats fishing every ling hole I have ever found legal fish, when in the past there were no boats within a mile...I am not upset, people fish, and I dont encroach on them.  I am pissed my shrimp pots were robbed, but not for the lings, I just need to find new areas/techniques...The way I know my shrimp pots were robbed is that I zip tie the rot cord on the doors, all zip ties were cut, and all bait was gone, and no shrimp in the pots...oh well, I suppose its like paying taxed, someone needed them more that me!!!

I am so sorry! I thought we were gonna share the spoils. I didn't ask where you were but figured when I saw what I saw that everyone was feastin. Ur deal Fn sux! I have been there with crab n know how it feels. I have learned over the years that sometimes out of sight means out of mouth and out of pocket! Where were u? I get it though, sometimes a few skumsuckas just do what they do... suckskum.

First thing we were by ourselves from 6:00-6:20 and we were feelin good. Then @ 6:30 a tidal wave of boats heading right for us, :yike: and surrounded us. Boats from the south went just north and stopped, boats from the north went just south and stopped. They did leave a large donut around us, but with all the drift it was eventually a *censored* show. Thought 4 sure that I would lose a pot or 2 thanx 2 a waterhead prop, but 2 my surprise I didn't. I'm not mad at it, just reminds me why I am fighting to see shrimpin season and allocation expanded... spread em out a little.

One hour soaks with 2 picks n it was over. We did drop in eyesight of our fishin grounds but with so many boats we relied on the "fear factor" to keep our pots down. Again, I am feelin 4 u, that's just not right!

One of the primary reasons we decided not to run Yesterday, between the BS of no respect people and the madhouse effect to the crappy tides.  Besides I found a bag of 50 count jumbos for $16 bucks at Safeway.... :chuckle:
