switching tags pre season???

well got a modern tag for west elk, now am thinking of muzzleloader, i am assuming i can switch it pre season right??
but...also wondering will this effect me puting in for permits. i'm kinda leaning towards simply drawing points and then later deciding what to hunt with.  can i do this?  the regs are leaving me confused.

you can switch, if you do not put in for permits.  Had a buddy do it and thats what they told him
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

It used to be that you couldn't switch tags if you applied for special permits, even if all you applied for was a point. But I noticed this year they changed it, so that if you only apply for a point, you can exchange your tag for a different one, as long as you do it before the season opens.

In 05 the vendor issued me a West Modern elk, when I asked for East Modern elk..... That I had purchased every year. They told me I had to fix it at a WDFW office, so I went to the Yakima office, and they wouldnt change it  :bash: So... I went over to Packwood since it was the closest area on the west side that I knew had elk in it.  I came home before noon opening day with a 5x4 bull, my only bull elk in 25years of hunting this state.  :tup:  Hope you get. It changed, if not maybe theres something in that for ya  :hello:

It's actually much easier than heading to a DFW office. Provided you haven't submitted any special permit apps, all you need to do is go to ANY license seller. Tell em what you need and they will call DFW office and EXCHANGE your license. Do it during DFW office hours. I had to do this on Wed. 10 mins of your time.
