Sidewinder planer?

has anyone tried using one of these with a K-14 Kwik? they look interesting,slick idea and easy to use from shore.

I tried one and it didn't wanna pull very far away from shore. I know a couple people who do VERY will with the pink side planers and kwikies.

Sorry, had to check what it was called. Luhr-jensen "hot shot" sideplaner. Take a piece of 3/16" pencil led and wrap it once around the arm of the planer out twords the actual planer piece. It will help it get a little further out there.

The hot shot one from luhr jensen did work pretty well once i got it figured out, and it needs to be the right amount of current. Theres 2 fins one for fast current and another for slower current.  Took awhile but i got it to stay out with a k-14 on it. It does take up some room in the river tho, best when no ones around!! Im sure it could work if i tried it somemore.

I havent used the sidewinder one.

I've tried a Sidewinder with a K-14 and I remember it working okay, but not how I imagined.  Drifted in closer that I wanted with that much down drag.  It worked better with a spinner/spinglo setup for me though.  Only used it a day.  Been 10 years or so ago.  I'd be happy to give it to you if I could find it amongst the gobs of tackle I have piled up.

They are usually adjustable for the current.  Also, using a longer rod helps get it farther out into the current.  You can hold the line higher and allow for less droop, so less line in the water trying to bring it back toward the fastest flow.  With powerpro I can get the planer to pull nearly across some rivers (hoh, sol duc) but when it gets too close to the other side the current weakens and it won't go all the way.
Definitely recommend using a weight before the lure.  When I haven't the lure rides to high.

That day I used some line wax that I carry for bobber fishing steelies.  It really helped lessen the line drag to the planer.

I tried both with not much luck.. the sidwinder would go out, but soon as the kwik fell behind it and dove it just pulled it down river and towards shore..the Luhr jensen was even worse. Tried a jet diver 20 with a spin a glo was a little better but not what I expected. may try some k13 next time

I threw the k14 by hand (25ish feet behind the planer) then tried to flip out the planer, let line out, tighten up the slack to get it to pull farther out in the river,(had to do that a few times)  once i had it in the faster water away from the bank it cut out into the current nice, it stayed out there  with good action from the quick untill someone showed up and i had to bring it in. Took some playing with but did get it to work after awhile.

the k14 sunk it almost it was worse than the sidewinder. I had a tip from a guy to hook your lure to your vest or waders pull out the desired amount of line and work the sidewinder out in current then set the kwik in the water. it worked pretty well till the kwik dove  this was a decent current right at shore all the way out and it just pulled that sidewinder downriver and towards the bank immediately

hummm? maybe, possible i was using a k13. it held in the river pretty good, with which ever one i had on.?!
