Hunting travel trailer

A friend called me last night.  He has a 22' Prowler that he will sell me for a really great price.  It is old, but no leaks, solid floor, lights work, tires are good condition, well cared for.  It is a 72, concerned about that.  It would make a great hunting trailer.  I have been looking for one for a couple years.  I guess I'm worried about weight, age, issues.  Thoughts? 

Is it worth pursuing? 
It is under a grand.

Would I dare pull it to another state?

how far you tow it should not be an issue, as long as the bearings are packed good, and the tires are good.

the worst part for a trailer that old is parts.  If the fridge or something similar goes tits up, can you find one to fit the hole and replace it.  How well does the charging system work for the batteries?  Plumbing all in good shape?  Does the furnace light easily and work properly?

Yeah, parts are a concern.  The plumbing doesn't leak.  Don't know about the charging.  It has gas/electric fridge and furnace.  Potable and grey tanks appear solid and pump works.

Would sway bars be a benefit with this trailer?  I think the gross weight empty is 3750 and 4500 as travel ready.  I've not pulled a travel trailer before.  I have a k1500 4x4 Suburban with heavy half conversion.  I have 10 ply 285/75/16s and a Reese frame hitch with standard receiver.  I've pulled a lot more weight than this trailer with the truck.  I've just never driven with a travel trailer behind.

for under a grand there is a point that you are going to have to assume some risk. It might be old but the price reflects that. If it is in as good as shape as you say then it sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

I would jump all over that deal. Spend a weekend going over the whole rig, frame to roof and find the problems, there will be some, but easy to fix...

we bought a 64 one year,for 300...took all the sealer off and resealed the whole outside,cleaned up anything we could find...was a great lil trailor,till some drunk cut it in half with his truck on our way home...If its dry,and the wireing is good,the floors arent rotting and no mold I say hell yeah..Bearings are cheap to keep in good shape,Good tire{no cheap crap}a plus..Any rust we cleaned and used hammerite on it...have a blast with it

Nothing wrong with old trailers, as long as they don't leak. Parts usually aren't an issue, if you are handy at all, you can fix just about any thing on an older trailer. The charging system is your truck, when it's plugged in to the trailer.

Great. I am getting ready to do a spring over lift on it, so it doesn't ride so low. I've been getting it ready for summer camping.

We chatted about lights.  He pulled the harness off last year and had to rewire it.  Since then, he said the running lights don't work.  That should be easy to fix.  The water heater igniter isn't full proof.  He said it may work/may not.  I'm meeting him this week to seal the deal.  I'm ready.  I need another project.  My kids are old enough to help and young enough to enjoy it too.

Well, I picked it up today.  I can't justify the rigs mst of you pull, but this one I can.  Originally, he wanted $1000 or near that, but at the last minute he said my wife and I talked and we only want $500.  I know you and your family and you'll enjoy it.

It needs work, but for what I want and need from it, I'm tickled.  I'll post pictures soon.
