New Gun safe.
« on: May 30, 2012, 02:46:24 PM »
I was at Whole sale sports the other day and noticed a nice Champion gun safe for $1500. Nice gloss black and really big inside, only downer was the cheesy gun storage system on the door, I was not super impressed by that. but anyways I need a bigger one and Fort Knox has just gotten to proud of their stuff and the local guy is a jerk. any experience with champions? am i missing something why they are so much cheaper than a fort Knox or a liberty?

What is the fire rating on it?

It is a Pendleton Safe.  If I am not mistaken, it has a similar rating to more traditional.  Not only does it hold something like 45 long guns as well as handguns, because of it being rounded, it fits in the corner deeper and therefore takes up less room.  Great Idea!

I looked at that one last weekend in store and decided to go with this one.  The shelves were flimsy, it wasn't pre drilled for a dehumidifyer and the mechanism seemed sloppy. :twocents:
This is the one I ordered and it is $400 off right now. Plust, they deliver this one for free and the one from the store you have to muscle around on your own.

Did you guys ever check with NW Safe to see what we had? We have a showroom with over 100 safes on display out in Enumclaw. We are also a site sponsor.

Why don't you have a website attached to your profile? It would certainly seem to help seeing as it looks like someone on this site buys a new safe every month or so...

I dont know of anyone. I dont think those safes have fire insulation (not fire rated). They cost as much as nice safes with fire ratings.

They apparently don't care about the fire rating so they've never tested them. Seems like they're trying to compare gun safe fire ratings to wear numbers on passenger tires. Makes sense to me unless UL is the one that does the fire testing.  :twocents:

There are no standardizations for fire ratings in the industry. UL does not do the fire testing, only the security testing. The UL security ratings on an RSC are a joke though.

Liberty has one of the best fire testing programs in the industry, and most of the other manufacturers try to compete with them. Liberty fire test quite a few safes every year to do research. I can tell you that Liberty safes rated under 60 minutes will not do well in a total loss house fire. They sustain a lot of damage inside. This goes for pretty much every brand on an industry wide whole.

I bought the 35.5 cf model last month.  So far it is a great safe for the money.  The key pad is a little cheesy but it works well and the features are great.  One of the biggest things for me was that they delivered it right to my garage and even put it exactly where I wanted it.

What y'all think of this deal? Bighorn safe at Costco.

Your link didnt work for me, but I just got my bighorn safe monday from costco, they had a sale on them. I love it, great finish, everything works and is simple. I would buy another one. I was going to buy a tracker, but costco's sale was on and it was free shipping, so it was the best bang for the buck.
