What's missing on the Kalama River ?
« on: August 07, 2008, 10:53:47 PM »
The waters down the big fish are in the river and the guys are catching some every day. Up and down the river there's one to five guys fishing every hole. But what's missing? :'( You  can see fish because the water is so clear and an occasional drift boat clanks across the shallow areas as they wish they were in their pontoon boat instead! :o But what's missing? Well I'll tell you. It's summer , the kids are out of school and they would be on the Kalama River IF there were Trout in the river. :bash: How are they going to learn to really fish? Not in stocked Lakes. :dunno: The river trout fishing is the training ground for Steel head fishing and Salmon fishing. Bring back the Trout to The Kalama and you'll secure the future of fishing  by involving the kids. :chuckle: When will our WDFW Learn :'(

I caught sea run cutthroat in the Kalama alll the time.  They are in there.

There are about 100 creeks in the area that have trout year round as well.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

plenty of trout elsewhere real close by. the kalama is a great river for steeelhead and salmon fishing...one of the few real good ones left that is small in size and flyfisherman friendly.

You don't hear about the trout there? I live close to it and fish it quite often ( 3 times a week) but don't see anyone catching trout.  STB

This time of year I found them hugging tight to the banks under overhanging branches or shady areas.  You can usually sneak close enough to spot them than move upstream and fish down to them.  With the way the steelhead and salmon runs are staggered throughout the year, I honestly think that hardly anyone targets these fish.
