Do you hide your camera?

I just put mine out on public land and it’s in plain site.  Anyone passing by can easily spot it.  I debated on covering it with branches, leaves, whatever but I expect that would interfere with its operation.  So it’s there for the taking if a dishonest person chooses to do so.

I hear quite a few stories about camera's being stolen...even those that aren't in "obvious" locations....that being said, I'd go move it ASAP.

anything short of bolting to a tree in a bear box, and I would move it ASAP!  I am assuming that you placed this near a road or near a well traveled path.  My camera's are by no means hidden, but they are generally out of the normal vision of humans.  3ft off the ground, and so far down in a hole that it eliminates being seen by alot of humans.

I don't set mine up anywhere that has easy access for anyone or way off the beaten path that I know no one will travel too... Just had mine out for 14 days and the closest one was 4 miles off any beaten trail out in the wilderness.  Never even seen a person up there let alone off the trail that far in.  I'd never put it anywhere close to public access for fear of them getting stolen and plus I don't hunt near the road....

I have a friend that had one stolen and he had it 4 miles back behing a locked gate    So you never know

I don't go behind locked gates because like that you can be asking for trouble... Roads are easy to hike, ridges and wilderness are not so much when there is no trails around! Haha bottom line, if you want to keep your cameras isolate yourself away from everyone and any spot people would normally travel!  And one other thing, you'll probably get a lot more pictures as well! I just had mine up for 14 days and one of my cameras on a big wallow took 616 pictures in 4 days and ran out of new battery so it sat there for 10 days not taking any pictures.  Kind of depressing it shut off that quick but I got enough to get me jacked for the year!

use bolts in the back and also chain it and lock it fully, if they want it from there they can have it way to much work for an average person.

The electrical box looks like a good idea.  I’ll look around and see what I have that might work for something similar.

Just to clarify, I didn’t hang the camera on the side of the road or off a hiking trail.  It’s probably a half mile or so from the nearest logging road and at the intersection of two game trails.  As far as I can tell the only things that frequent those trails are deer and a small cat.  But like most places in WA there are signs of people around; the area has been logged several years ago, there are old shotgun cases here and there, other trash, etc. 

But If someone walks by for whatever reason, the camera isn’t hidden or locked.  Sounds like most of you are in the same boat and rely on the remoteness of your location to keep your cameras safe.   I guess there are no guarantees and these things don’t do any good locked in our garages.   

Mine’s been there almost a week now,   can’t wait to see what’s on the card.
