Help with new "problem"?

This morning, I had several people (farmers/residents) complaining to me that they all have experienced too many mice around and it is my fault because I killed too many coyotes.....

I suggested some decon

snakes eat more mice than coyotes, as do hawks, and falcons and owls owls love mice, pretty sure your coyote control is not affecting the mice to that extent they ebb and flow with weather and stuff....maybe those peoples crops are causing the mice population to explode....   I had a rat problem and the local feral cats were no help, didn't even dent the population I finally broke down and used a rat poison I still dont know what caused them to have a population explosion like that ...

maybe you should deliver them all a big bunch of snakes to help with the problems

A few years back we had a feral cat explosion in this neighborhood resulting in mice becoming extinct.  When feral cats were eliminated (I plead the 5th!) the mice came back.  The moral: lots of mice means not enough feral cats!

I would politely tell them that coyotes ate the local cats that were keeping the mice in check.  I would then point out that you exterminated those coyotes, so it is safe for them to get another cat or two to work the mouse population.  They can even go to no kill shelters and specifically request "barn cats" that people have brought  in that are exceedingly good killers but not so good with people.  Give them a place in the barn or garage with a blanket and some cat food, and they will stick around long enough to find mice and rats.  Then I would just say, "Oh, by the way, you're welcome," and walk away.

Do this, keep shooting coyotes and be sure to take aim at a few cats every now and then and a perfect balance should be reached.  Or at at least you will have plenty of targets to shoot at.  Either way, you win.

There's a lot of farmers around here that don't or won't let you hunt coyotes for that very reason.

find farmers with cattle...i have a few that wont let me hunt coyotes in the summer cuz they help keep gophers and what not down but when the snow flies and the cattle start calving...its on like donkey kong for coyotes!

I for 1 have never had that problem. Farmers see me coming to hunt coyotes and they pull up a chair to laugh at the me like I'm the shakiest gun in the west.

Try a mouse squeaker to call the little rodents in, then unload your Red Ryder on them. Of course if you'll have to shoot better than you do at coyotes to hit any according to Swag.

Coyote numbers are down!

Mice numbers are up!

Gringo gets to hunt mice! Offers Gringo to get much needed target practice, although aim small, miss small may pose a challenge.

Cheap ammo with a classic red ryder!

Hanford will not have to be called in for reclamation of lead in Gringo's hunting grounds.
