Margaret scouting trip

Scheduled my vacation days with no set plans this year.   Now plans are set for spending a lot of time scouting the east end, starting in July.  My son and I drew the modern (12 points) and will both be trying for our 1st WA bull.  The only camp site I see anywhere close is the Green River horse camp.  Is it OK to dry camp off FR99 or FR26?  Both of us have packed a lot of meat, I figure we are due to earn our own, and plan on spending time learning an area we haven't been in.   After some of the posts I've seen, hoping it's not to much to ask for camping locations

That is a ruff area to hunt . Snow will be the issue on that side for sure.  Can stay at the horse camp.  Will be there for archery.  Dont scare all the the animals away forbus archery guys.

No worries, my scouting will have to be in July and August to learn the area.  I'll have to ration my October and November vacations, strictly hunting.  I plan on laying low during archery and muzzy, then hope the snow don't get too deep before November.  I might get a wild hair and hunt with the smokepole during modern.   Let my boy have the long shots.  Then again, maybe not

if your willing to put down any boot the margaret is an easy hunt. all you have to do is drive down the road look with binos till you see one you like, climb the hill, shoot the bull, let it roll down, and pack it the 200 yards back to the truck. imo...

I'm too much of a glutton for punishment to start out like that.  Maybe when my boots are wore out, I'm tired, I got no dry socks, and nothing left in the lunch box but pilot bread, I'll try that.  At least I could say I earned it

There might be one problem camping there this summer.  The USFS is considering a permit for a mining company that will be DRILLING HOLES right next to and in the Green River Horse camp and on the hillside above.  The noise might affect the elk and could cause the horsecamp or other access to be closed.  THe USFS/BLM haven't issued the permit yet, but going the meetings this winter it sounded like a rubber stamp done-deal.  Be aware.  And for more info go the the BLM website.  Goat Mountain Drilling Ascot Resources.
