Trophy Bonded Tip
« on: June 10, 2012, 08:54:51 AM »
I've been using the trophy bonded tip for the last few years for elk, but have only been hunting spikes. How has this bullet been holding up with the big boys. I'm using the 180 grain in my .300 Win Mag. Years back I was using the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and it performed flawlessly, and my understanding is that the Trophy Bonded Tip is basically the same, but I tend to build confidence in a bullet based off of performance and haven't had the opportunity to use the new one except on spikes who seem to die just as easy as a big muley. Should I trust the Trophy Tip on larger elk?

If you do your part, that bullet will perform just as flawlessly as the TBBC.

Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Shot placement will be the only diffence between these

I have been shooting the Federal Premium Trophy Boned Tip 180 grain .300 Win Mag. for a couple years now.  I haven't shot any big bulls.  But some big cows and muley deer.  They have worked great for me.  I agree with some of the other post too, shot placement is a big part though.

Thanks for the replies guys. I tried the Accubonds for a couple of years in a .300WSM and thought that they did alright. Don't get me wrong, they did the job, I just didn't like that they seemed to blow apart on impact. I found pieces of bullet in two different deer, and after finding the same thing in a spike elk that took me a half a day to find after taking two through the ribs I said no more and went back to the TBBC.  I am sure that the Accubond is an excellent round, I just didn't have the best experience with it. Anyway thanks for the reassurance, I am placing an order for my years worth of hunting ammo and wanted to make sure I am buying the right stuff, I get to chase the big boys this year.
