So are they pissed at themselves for not reading the regs and understanding what they were applying for?

Can't speak for them, but personally I never saw that and I would think that would be a highlight for changes. Maybe it was, I didn't see it. Pretty significant. 
I would like to hear if there is a more expensive state to hunt in than this state??? If you add all the taxes we pay in gas, booze, chew and etc.. It truly is turning into a rich mans sport!

I did see the fee increase and I still chose to put in and will buy my tag. I think its very irresponsible of you and/or your friends to not have taken the time to read and understand the regulations for the tags that you were applying for. You all should have read the regulations because the tag fee increases across all of the categories were clearly stated in several places.

We have beat the topic to death about prices, but they aren't going to go down anytime soon (probably never) and I am sick of guys complaining about the prices over and over.  Look at it this way, you didn't pay attention to detail and now you are pissed off about the prices, but you and all of your buddies screwed other people out of tags that were willing to pay the $68 fee. If you don't like the prices, either write a letter to the State addressing your concerns or stop buying a license.

Hunting maybe becoming a rich man's sport, but if you enjoy hunting as much as I do, then you will figure out someway to pay for it.  Hunting is a part of my lifestyle, so I will keep doing it as long as I can afford it.  With that being said, I can think of a lot of my other "hobbies" that I would give up just to fund my hunting expenses so I envision hunting every year as long as I am able bodied.

Oh yeah if you cut out the booze and chew for a week, you could probably afford the tag too!

When i was stationed in CALI they banned lead ammo in all the areas around Lemoore (central Cali).  a box of ammo could not be found under 60 bucks and the gas prices were near 5 buck a gallon.  That was the most expensive I have seen...

Who May Apply: Anyone may apply.
Hunt Choices Allowed: Up to 4 hunt choices may be selected for this category. Use the 4-digit "Hunt Choice" number
below to submit your application.
Notes: You must purchase a second deer tag to participate in this hunt and only the second tag can be used in the second
deer permit hunt. The second tag must be the same weapon choice as your first tag. You may hunt only with the hunting
method in compliance with your tag. The price of a second tag has increased significantly, please see page 14.

It is important to thoroughly read the regulations (general information pages included) each season, not just thumb through to the special permit hunt species/category/hunt names. Changes occur every year.
