3 of us drew Murderers creek bull tags
« on: June 18, 2012, 08:09:16 PM »
Myself and two friends drew our 1st season bull tags, Oct.24-28th. One of has hunted this in '06, and we have been in the area before. We are going down to do some camping next month. I have a few leads already, but if someone has some past experianes they would like to share i am all ears! We are not trophy hunting, so the first decent bull we see is getting a poke! I like elk meat too much to let a bull walk!

Congrats on the draw.  For what its worth, I have spent a lot of time in this unit over the last several years, primarily on the eastern porition of the unit, in the Strawberry Wilderness rifle hunting muleys.  Summer scouting trips have found good bulls and a lot of elk in the Strawberry Mountain, Wildcat Basin and Indian Spring areas but jhave not seen a lot of fresh elk sign or bulls during early October.  While I'm not sure, other than maybe the Aldrich Mtns, where else I would go for an October bull- I dont think it would be in the areas I mentioned above.  Good luck to you guys this fall...my dad and I drew Keating bull tags.

There's no elk in the murderers creek, the wolves and cougars have eaten them all and what was left the indians shot from the road.  :chuckle: Talk to you soon Jason.

Geez! Did you leave us anything! :chuckle:
By the way Ryan, the largest herd of elk I have ever seen while hunting was in the Malhuer river unit, 80 head in one herd!
I will call you in a week or so, we are heading down there in 3 weeks.
