They will always be a "Blue Grouse" to me.... However you can totally tell the difference between the 2 species. The "Dusky Grouse" are more gray and the "Sooty Grouse" are more brown. We've ALL shot both of them and probably not even paid attention and I'm sure they taste the same too.
I love me some BLUE GROUSE though. I would shoot Blues over Ruffed Grouse any day.

Cant wait till Sept. 1st!!!!

That's funny, I'd take a ruff any day of the week over a blue!

Really??? Theres so much more meat to a blue than a ruffed. Don't get me wrong, anytime I see a ruffed grouse between sept 1 - dec 31 he's a goner....

I'd take either one too!!! But if i had the choice, ruff's all the way.  Less meat but lighter colored, tastier meat  :twocents:

:chuckle:  I'll never get used to the change either. They'll always be blue grouse to me. But they split them into two separate species, dusky grouse and sooty grouse.

Nothing to get used to.  These jerks didn't get my permission, nor did they consult with me before arbitrarily deciding to do this.  Screw them. Their dusky sooty crap doesn't register.  Doesn't count.   :bash:

Blue grouse is blue grouse.  Always have been, always will be.

The name game..seriously getting upset because they changed the name?

These are spruce, francolin, or fools hens.  Are you upset because they are known by three different names?

I think he meant to say " Them's is rough grouse..." as in rough looking -  Lee please smooth out the feathers on your birds before a photo shoot. :chuckle:
