BOAT CAPTSIZED IN THE SKAGIT RIVER !!!
« on: July 14, 2012, 05:14:13 PM »
Just got word from a buddy in Day Creek that a man is in the water after his boat apparently started doing donuts in the middle of the river and then throwing him from the boat ...We think he was traveling down river at a fast speed and let go of the handle which steers the boat making it go into sharp spins tossing him from the boat .....as of right now they found the boat but not the fisherman....Boat belongs to someone in Bellingham ....keep ya posted ......For as high as the river is I am surprised their has not been more accidents with all the people out around the river ....Do not let it fool you it is high and cold and dangerous ...

Well this does not look good...My buddy and I went up to the scene and they got the boat and his dog ... Coast guard and sheriffs dept were searching for a few hours .. Man this has been one of the worse years in skagit Co. we have lost three people now do to drowning ... 2 or them were kids ....a buddy of mine lives on the river and saw this guy go by his house and a little time later he was sitting in his living room when he heard something crash into the rocks below his house and when he looked down he saw that same boat bouncing off the rocks without the person in it ...really a sad deal ... god bless all 3 of their families !!!! still may be a chance but not likely !

Life jacket only works if you wear it... :bash:

I hope he made it to shore. I grew up on the Skagit and I know how cold the water is. You have about 8-13min until hypothermia sets in and you can no longer move.

They still haven't located the guy.  Probably a recovery mission!

Sad deal.  Life jacket and a kill switch likely could have prevented serious injury.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Very sad, odds are not good now. Saw lots of sheriff activity earlier today.

I've drifted the Skagit over the years and the only time I ever got into trouble was when I was so relaxed I didn't think anything would be a problem.  I learned quickly that there can always be a problem.  I hope they can find him.

Yeah its nothen to be messing around with... pretty erie feeling when you see a guys boat and his dog  floating down the river and he is not in it ... I was fishing this morning and all I kept thinking about was this poor guy and his family .... His poor son was not to much worried and was thinking they would find him and daddy would be coming home soon ...man it really hits home knowing you should never take one day for granite ....plus they found about 8 empty beer cans in the boat so thats not good neither ....a buddy went lookin for him as soon as he found the boat because it was only about 20min when him and his boat and dog went past his house and not a half hour passed and the boat was back at his place bouncing off the rocks ... so he responded rather quickly but obvious not quick enough ...Hope people start realizing how important is to wear a life jacket because I am sure he did not exspect  his life was in serious danger and he also thought he had time to grab his life jacket if needed but obviously not ......
