In Snohomish looking to fish

Hey all, I'm new to the area and newer to the forum..  Anyways, I have an 8ft flat bottom with troller/ battery/ oars and I've fished Martha Lake a couple times, and looking to try out other lakes/ ponds in the area.  If anyone has any ideas and or wants to fish, I'd dig a partner out there since the wife doesn't care much for fishing, but she can cook a mean trout.

I'd really like to try out Salmon fishing if anyone had any good pointers as well, I'm not looking to get "secret spots" but any suggestions are appreciated.  I have a Orvis fly rod, Shakespeare Salt rod, and a couple little Shakespeare small fish rods.

I'd like to land something bigger than the 12" trout of Martha..

Flowing Lake
Snohomish River
Skagit River
Puget Sound

So I wouldn't worry to much about salmon at this point. 1: the rivers are still really high, especially for a boat/motor combo like you have, and 2: there isn't any to catch anyway.  Come September/October silvers and chums will be hitting the Snohomish/Stilliguamish system and the rivers will be much lower and more manageable for your boat. Thats when I would start thinking about that.

As far as lakes: Blackmans Lake, as was perviously mentioned is a decent bet. Gets lots of large trout planted in the spring. If you go a little further north you have Lake Cassidy for good warm water action (bass, perch, crappie) and some nice trout in there as well. Flowing Lake is another good one, same species as Cassidy.

If you want to go after some bigger fish, think about taking up steelheading, but be prepared to catch absolutely nothing for like 3 years. I think thats the average amount of time it takes most DIY steelhead fisherman to land one. In the next month or so the rivers around here will start to drop to summer/fall levels and make fishing them easier. PM if you want any specifics on this. I grew up fishing them and have guided for them for many years.

The skykomish has steelhead in it. Floats and jigs are always a good option.

I guessing with the cooler weather we have had so far that many of the lakes are still fishing OK for trout.  My son caught one last night in Flowing lake with a worm.  I agree that I wouldn't do much for Salmon until this fall.

Excellent posts!  Anyone care to head out sometime in the coming weeks?  I'd like to get more into fly, even if it requires early mornings n' late nights out on the lakes / rivers of the area...

I been seein boats in the snohomish near monroe. Whats fishin right now? Just saw a parking lot full of boat trailers the other day, I too would really like to catch some salmon. Havent caught a salmon in Washington yet and horribly failed at winter steelheading this last season

The Skagit opened for Sockeye.  Heard they're getting some.

Summer steelhead are here. Got this little beauty a couple days ago  out of the sky.

There are some nice ones in Blackmans from time to time. Take a look at the wdfw homepage and see where they are stocking in the area. They are planting some nice triploids in some of the area lakes. The state even has us Trailblazers stocking some of the high country lakes with them this year.

My main problem with my boat, is since I drive a lifted rover, it goes on top!  So I need fishin' buddies to help load unload it too! hahah

Skyhomish sounds most promising along with Blackman's Lake..

Boy they seem to be getting steelhead on the regular up around reiter ponds! Im thinkin about trying it out tomorrow!
