Anyone hunt the Grayback gmu 388???
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:49:08 PM »
I went up today to do some pre season scouting and set up a trail cam. I saw a lot of does and one buck. I set up my cam on a heavily traveled trail leading to a creek and threw out a mineral lick and a deer lick to attract them and maybe get some pics. It sucked carrying those 50lb blocks up and down the mountain. :o Do you guys think that the bears will bother the mneral blocks?

Looks like a good of spot as any. I have found the deer dont care for the salt blocks much. They like those molasises and grain ones thou. Unfortunitly so do the squarrels.

I will be up there this fall. Some years are better than others. 09' was the last time I hunted that unit. How were the ticks when you were setting up the cam?

I didn't encounter any ticks at all actually. Maybe it was to hot. The temp was 99 degrees when I was up there.

Seen a nice 3 point muley (with eye guards) in velvet last year during august being scraped off the side of the road after being struck by a car in that area. :bash:  If I was in my truck that day I would've loaded him on but since I was in my work car I had to watch him being taken away by WSDOT. :'(

Good luck down there and hope you get to fill the freezer.

I'll be heading that way in a few weeks to start Scouting around with my sidekick... He'll have the bear tag ready "Just in case".. That place looks awful different in the summer than come modern rifle.. So green and thick (And tick infested in the bottoms).. Numbers in my area are looking good.. Hunting partner went up three weeks ago and saw 80 in one day.. Did put some miles on the truck and the boots though.. Either way Im stoked!!! :whoo:
