Edmonds Coho Derby
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:14:06 PM »
Who's going to be fishing tomorrow? I'll be out there with my GF and  FC . We'll be at the Everett launch at 4:30, hopefully it won't be too crowded at that time! The fishing should be good and the weather is supposed to be nice. Feel free to post up you successes on this thread and tell us how you do. Let's see which Hunt Wa member catches the biggest fish. Also post up your boats total weight. It'll be interesting to see who I beat out and by how much!  :yike:   :chuckle: Let the trash talking begin!

Have fun out there.  I’ll wait until Monday to fish, less hassle that way.

So how did it go?  I see the current leader is only 11lbs.  I expected better than that

We did good, limited the boat easily and had some crazy fish landings that I couldn't believe we managed at the time! Unfortunately our best fish (cleaned weight) was only 5.78lbs, a good fish and great eating size but no derby winner.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

We put 4 on the boat, one just over 8 lbs and the others all 5-5 1/2ish.  Beautiful weather!

We hooked 7, landed a 5, 7, 8 and 11, and were back at the marina by 9:00am. Nothing big enough for the derby but we entered one for the mystery fish.

That 11 lb'er would have won a nice prize. Nice bunch of fish!

I'd be up for any tips regarding heading out. Looking to wet lines Saturday am. Plan on working the edges of the bar, rips, and open water if I see birds feeding.

I'd say watch your sounder.  We were on them shallow early (35-45ft at 5am), but when the sun came up and it started getting warm it seemed like they went quickly to deeper water.  By 930am we were pinging and catching fish around 140-155ish.  Gotta fish where the fish are, right?!

Yep, you do. Good advice. We plan on being lines in at sun up. I'm going to run a cut plug off the stern and start the rigger shallow. I'll move them deeper sooner than usualy based on the sounder and your advice. Thanks.
