Alaska Moose/Caribou

I leave a week from Tuesday to hunt Moose, caribou and wolf North of Fairbanks. Anybody else going up to hunt moose in Sept. Would love to hear any stories of successful/unsuccessful Alaskan trips. I'll be floating 60 miles of river on the South slope of the Brooks Range.

We are putting in about 20 miles up river(caribou may be in this area) of the prime Moose area so we will float down to that area the day prior to the season starting then spend a couple days in each prime location. A total of eight day hunting. It only takes 25 to 30 hours of floating to get from point A to B. The river is on the South slope of the Brooks Range and it makes it way to the Yukon River.

Good luck! That sounds like it is going to be a blast. Are you rifle or archery hunting, also is this DYI or guided. I would be interested in something like that any details would be great.

Here's my son's archery Moose from last year. I'm sure you'll see lots bigger boys than this.

BC Chaser, It's a DIY rifle hunt, but you could take a bow it you want. I did a similar trip in 06 but it was a drop hunt, I got a wolf and a small caribou but no moose. This time I used Pristine Ventures (pristineventures.com). Larry will set you up with a hunt on a remote river/area and give you all the info and details you need for a hunt, including details on getting your meat and trophy home. It is a little spendy but wayyyyyy cheaper than a guided hunt. I feel a lot better going this time with the info I've been given and what I learned from my last trip. Although the adventure is 90% of it, I will be
if I don't get a moose this time.
Nobark, if I get something it will be bigger than that, it is 50 inches or four brow tines on one side for non-residents. I bet bet that one tasted good.

Good luck on the hunt. I will be doing a float hunt as well. We are going to be floating a river in south central AK. Don't have huge expectations but we have a pretty good shot at a moose and there are a ton of bears where we are going. Good luck on the hunt

Heading out for my moose hunt up there on the 10th. Looking to get something bigger than my 66" last time but that might be tough to do. Best of luck to all moose hunters.
