Guess the score
« Reply #61 on: November 06, 2012, 12:48:20 PM »
Yeah I dont know I'm no expert. Not sure why he was measuring the points the way he was, but not measuring from the center of the horn (again no idea why he did it) would disqualify about 10 inches worth of extras (all those extras on his bases) off the score, as well as drop the total by several inches, bringing it to a more believable but still pretty amazing score for a 3 point! When the guys brought him in they were claiming they had killed a 200 inch "nasty one" so I think Dusty was stretching the tape a little to make the guys feel better. There had also been some whiskey flowing.

Like I said I'm no expert at scoring by any means, but it's funny how many people try to guess the score of an animal without actually taking into consideration actual inches of horn.

When you added the red solo cup (song singing in my head) for reference it really illuminated how big this guy is.

Points are measured from the edge of the mainbeam.  That explains my confusion on all the extra points (but not my confusion in general).

What part of WY (general).  I killed a buck in SE WY years ago that has the same conformation, giant back tines and forks, tall, boxy rack.

Somewhere in the NW region, near a town named clark is all I know.

The cool part is this buck was not a local deer, that area is farmland and foothills. This was a mountain buck with dark pine pitch covered horns. Not many pine trees around, I'll bet he came a long ways, just a lot earlier than the rest of the migrating deer. He was killed in open sagebrush foothills, they jumped him from his bed between some big rocks, at least that's the story we were told.

When do we get the official green gross score?
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

We won't know it. Those boys who killed it will probably get it officially scored at home because chances are no one will believe them but they live in Iowa and I'm home now. The guy who actually pulled the trigger didn't care what it scored his brother is the one who insisted on putting a tape on it and said its gotta be 200. Let him think it, that thing is gonna look cool on the wall no matter what the score is.

:yeah: It will look awesome on the wall no matter the score. The score sheet I put together was based on the numbers from the sheet on page 3. I think its probably closer to a 155"-160" buck and an overall stud of a three point.

I like the bases on this deer a lot. I'd like to see field pics if there are any?
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

He does appear to have the longest g2's I recall seeing on a mulie. My elk usually don't have 20 inch swords.
