7mm-08 bullet question
« on: January 02, 2013, 02:56:59 AM »
So, I just got a new 7mm-08 and I would like some recommendations as to what bullet to use for Black Bear. This rifle will specifically be used for just black bear. The rifle is a Remington model 7 with a 20 inch barrel and I'm not planning on taking any shots over 300 yards if that makes any difference.

I love my accubonds. I shoot them for the bog game in the 7mm-08 and the nosler CT'S for my varmints.

Seeing how you are one of the cool kids and in the know, are they going to offer the Accubond LR's in factory loaded ammo? Accubond's are one of the bullets I was leaning towards.

That would be my guess but I have not asked that question. If they do "which I am pretty sure they will" I bet it will be more in the mag cals. I don't think there would be to many offerings in the smaller cartridges like the 7mm-08. Nothing wrong with it and I am a HUGE 7mm-08 buff as most know. It's not really a long range gun. Sure you can point a 22 at the sky and make it what some people call long range :chuckle:

I will ask next time I rattle my buddies cage. I was hoping to get a order in soon but I don't think will happen soon with all the demand.

Ok, I kind of figured that for the 7mm-08. Guess if I do decide on the Accubond I won't hold off hoping for the LR.

I like Barnes TSX for  7-08.
120gr for long range, 140 for closer in.

The 150gr gameking BTSP is awful soft, good deer bullet, but wouldnt use it for bear, pig, or elk. I'm loading plain corlokt and hornady interlock, but havent gotten to shoot a whole lot with it. Plan to try some SST, which is just an interlock with a polymer tip..

140 accubond would fit the bill quite nicely for a short/medium range black bear bullet from your 708

Killed a 200lb bear at around 125yd with a 120gr Barnes TS loaded hot in my 7x57 Winchester model 70 featherweight. It went less than 60yd with it's lungs blown out. I shot a lot of animals with the 139gr Hornady out of that gun and would use it on bear in a heart beat. The 140gr Barnes TS and Nosler 140gr partion would work great also.

under 500 that's just getting to be a poke :chuckle: I guess it's in the eyes of the shooter and what each person calls long range.

who says the 7mm-08 ain't no long range gun, lol. :chuckle:

:chuckle: That's just funny. You ask 1000 competitive long range shooters what gun they shoot. Tell me how many tell you 7mm-08  A 22 could be a long range gun to some people but as my point made. It is not a popular choice and sure not worth the money to a big company to produce ammo for the 1:1000 person that thinks its a great long range gun.
