84 ford ranger 5 speed 2.3lt

okay so my clutch and break are froze up on my ranger and im going to remove the clutch petal shaft and turn it in the lathe so its not rusty any more but..... i cant get the shaft out. i smacked it with a hammer and still nothing. any advice? thanks
