I'm looking for a place to hunt.
« on: May 27, 2013, 01:43:44 PM »
I'm new to the state, I don't really know were you can and can't hunt. I live in Lacey I want to hunt some mule deer. So any help with some public land I can hunt will be great I  hunt with a bow and or a rifle.

For mule deer on public land, I would recommend the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest:

Thanks for the map that's a lot of help. Do I need a permit for that national forest or just get a licence and hit the woods?

No permit needed, just go to walmart or Cabelas and buy your deer tag.

Lots of great public land on Snoqualmie pass and lots of muledeer  /  bucks.   Head past the ski area and take a left or right up into the mountains, will be a great hike.    Mike

I'm sure you have figured this out but, just in case, you know that once you declare which side of the mountains you will hunt, you're stuck with that side.  In other words, if you buy a deer tag for the east side, you cannot hunt the west side.  The reason I mention this is because you said you were new to the state and this is an uncommon thing in most other states.  Same thing with archery vs rifle or muzzle loader, once you buy a tag for whichever one you will hunt with, that's all you will be able to hunt with.  Another one of those weird things.

I also live in Lacey and if you need help with figuring out some of this stuff, I'll be glad to help.  I'm also looking for someone to do a little pre season elk scouting so if you're interested in that, give a shout.

You must be new to the state as well? A deer tag is valid for the entire state. Only elk tags are east or west.

Lets clear this up. Elk is the only species that you need to declare east or west. All others are state wide. For the weapon of choice choose the SEASON you like. If its muzzleloader for exanple you can use archery or muzzleloader during that season. If you have any questions regarding tbe game regs this is a good place to get them answered.

Pretty new to hunting.  Killed my first elk with a bow in 1966.  I just don't hunt anything in Washington but elk.

No need to be sarcastic, was just asking a question. Maybe you should refrain from giving advice on something you don't have knowledge of then.  :twocents:

I don't think the sarcasm is nessacary. I was just trying to point out the facts on the deer tag. I'm not some know it all. I have no doubt that the new hunter would benifit from your knowledge of the area. Good luck to you guys.
