bumped into a mt lion today
« on: October 10, 2013, 03:52:47 PM »
Ran into a mt lion in the woods today.  It went its way and I went mine, but it got me thinking.
Does anyone pack extra deterrent for such encounters during archery or muzzy seasons?

An arrow or 348 grain bullet?

I always have a pistol on my hip but I think that is more for my own sanity and not actual safety because I don't know if I would actually be able to use it. Those things are sneaky assassins and make about as much noise as a mouse fart when stalking.

.357 mag.  It's a nuisance to carry, but so far it's been worth my peace of mind.  We met a guy packing a bull out alone, and on the third trip back found a bear on his kill!  He had no firearm and said he let the bear have the rest.  He saw my pistol and commented that he wished he had one.

Why did you not shoot it with the muzzle loader? :dunno: :dunno:

I carry a 40 on my side while archery hunting.

I was going to say I carry an arrow during archery season that would work, and if I was muzzelloading I think its .54 caliber  or something like that...... :dunno:

Funny.....had a female and two spotted kittens cross in front of me, on my way to work, this morning. My sighting was in the Wenas, where was yours?

I would bump into cats quite often before we had a season for them.  Since you can now shoot one I have yet to bump into a lion.  Arrow, pistol, muzzy or rifle I don't care what weapon I have I'd be shooting. I'd actually prefer to be carrying a stick and string when that happens.  It's one of the few non-OIL lower 48 animals I have yet to tag with a bow.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
