So saturday for the opener I had a 40 yard shot at the big buck I have been watching for two months!!! I hit a branch in the dark of the morning light!  Do I still go after this buck after he has been shot at?? Im certain I know the hole he is in and probably laying down hiding. Or just find a legal buck in another area?

I really want a deer. But this buck is a wall hanger and its driving me nuts!!!

Kurt
Is this seriously even a question?  If it's not dead  go get it. Is there some kind of sportsman rule that I don't know about that says if you missed  You can't try and shoot that animal again.  ?
If its brown knock it down

I don't understand why you wouldn't go after him. What's the worst that could happen?

Ya, I understand that..  Just don't wanna screw him all up!!  Im thinking he needs a dirt nap
You don't want to screw him up How?   He is a freaking deer . Do you think he will feel better knowing you are letting him rest?

Sounds like a battle of wits to me... :chuckle:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

He is THAT good of a buck!! I will be alone, so no way I can cover all his escape routes..

Guess my question is more to the how would you hunt a buck that has been shot at and is spooked big time by now!

PS no one else will go where he is, so I know he aint dead..  Its in a draw that runs all the way to hell.  Approach from the top? Bottom? Its fairly open but thick in the bottom...  Im thinking get in before sun up and sit on him all day!! Until he makes a fatal mistake
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Well that makes more sense.  I honestly don't think that one shot is going to freak him out that much. Good luck
