Mink Trapping w/o a swim through?
« on: November 02, 2013, 11:22:58 AM »
Any experience trapping mink on land?  I see them around our docks and shorelines but there really is no place to set swim throughs as we don't have muskrats.

What would be good bait?  I have crab tops, raccoon, and deer trimmings that I could use.  Size of traps to use?

Thanks.

Regular cage trap will catch them just set the pan tension real light like 2 lbs. Cover the trap as best you can make it look like a tunnel in the grass or weeds.

If you cant adjust the pan, wire the bait to the back

I cover in high traffic area and not in others,,,,,,  plastic helps in freeze thaw/ snow conditions.......

Duck carcass work good for me......

You could still make bottom edge sets?  Those are killer effective with a swimthrough colony trap as long as the wire is robust enough to hold a mink.  1"x2" 12 gauge wire will hold 'em just fine and it shouldn't matter if you've got rats in the area.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Thanks everybody.  I forgot about my four duck carcasses in bags the other night (put on the deck on the way to the garage freezer) and the racoons hauled them, and the bags off.   :bash:  At least I got more ducks yesterday.
