Interesting thread, I'd like to see if I can catch some.  The closest water to me is the Columbia near Paterson.  Does a big river like the Columbia work for crawdad fishing or are smaller ponds and streams better?  I'm sure my grandkids would love catching some, or just throwing rocks in and driving me nuts.
Disappointments are inevitable, misery is optional.

Hey there feller friends, please count me in. crawfish popped into my head last september when i was sitting on my couch with a broken ankle, so once i recovered i was anxiously waiting for the season to start after i made my pots. Im a pumped up 16 year old excited to see some huge crawfish. pulled my pots this morning and got what i think is a monster. here he is,   i think its safe to say he is 7 3/8 inches
Lets go, we got fish to catch on the boondocks!!!

MC I just made up 5 pots this weekend from leftover plastic chicken netting and some hardware cloth from my chicken coop build a couple of years age. Lets try and get out for some Crawdads soon. Did you end up getting your Tom?

First traps set this year.  Off to a great start.  Caught about 65 crawdaddys.  Biggest/longest stretched out to 7 and 3/4 inches.  We called him crazy claw.

Tried a small lake in the neighborhood this weekend with no luck. I did get some pretty good solid leads as to where some hot spots are. One from a lake I knew had crawdads but never had any luck, someone told me there was a particular spot to set the pots to be successful which happens to be very rocky (makes sense). The other I should have known crawdads would be there. The guy I got the info from actually lives on the lake and catches them all the time. So, off to next week.

Memorial Day dinner.  We use Zatarans in our boils.  Also we "clean" our crawdads.  We cook just the tails and big claws.  It makes for a cleaner feast at the table.  Plus you can fit more into the pot too.
