Anybody fish the Cowlitz lately
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:29:01 AM »
I'm thinking of taking the drift boat to the Cowlitz this weekend, and can't decide if I want to fish from the barrier dam to Blue Creek, or from Blue Creek to the mission.  We will be targeting steelhead.  Anybody have any advice?
Hunt hard and shoot straight!

No advice on which stretch to fish but I heard they upped the limit to 3/person. I also heard it had been decent low in the river around the mouth. Good luck! Have fun!

There's no fish in the Cowlitz.... :hello:

Run BC to mission to avoid the crowd. Barrier has been super busy.
Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.

Been fishing the river a lot in the last 3 weeks things have really slowed down. The steel heading never really got hot this summer .By this time in a normal year I'd have at least 20 plus caught.

Been running divers and Loonie Coonies. Doing pretty good. Screwed up yesterday and grabbed the wrong leaders. Cost me 2 fish. Broke 1 off at the boat. The other 1 got away with my hook on the take down. Bit a couple times. Buried my rod. Rod pops up. Dang. Guess I better rebait. Reeled in. No hook. So went 1 for 3 with a couple other bites. Oh, 6 lb leaders are to light for divers and coon shrimp! :bdid:
