Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50 VS. Vortex Viper HD 15-45x65
« on: September 16, 2014, 03:47:55 PM »
I've narrowed down the spotting scopes I'm looking at buying to these two.  Has anyone have both and preferred one over the other?  Can both see a .30 cal hole in paper at 300 yds?  Thanks for all input.

I should also add it will primarily be for hunting but would like it to perform at the range as well.

I've never tried, but I doubt you'll see a .30 cal hole at 300 yards with either one. Maybe with the bigger one if it's cold enough out that the heat waves won't mess with you. I could be way off there.
I have a 15-30 and a 20-60 spotter and I use the bigger one mucccchhhhh more often than the little one.

like jackalope said, depending on paper color and contrast it is tough to see 30 cal holes at 300 yards. I have the viper hd 15-45 and can almost always see 30 cal holes at 220 on gray or white paper but darker is impossible.
I feel the viper is a pretty dang good spotter for the cost.
I have no experience with the razor however.

I bought the same spotter from Paul earlier this year and love it. It's light, compact, and super clear. Does everything I need it for while backpack hunting for 6-7 day trips!

Glad to hear you like it.  Which tripod are you using?
