Weyerhauser Sold out Permits for My Area
« on: December 05, 2014, 09:55:27 PM »
Did this happen to anyone else? I typically try to find a decent buck in Washington State and once I get one coming to my trail cam set ups regularly, I will plop down the money for a tag. This year I went to start my scouting in mid October and found out the entire area was closed and the permits were all sold out :bash:

That won't happen again. In some ways it is bitter sweet. I think it will increase the quality of the hunt, but it definatley put a damper on things this year. Hoping to find a decent buck on a small piece of private in 564 that a friend said I could scout on Sunday.

What unit? How do you think it will increase the quality of the hunt?

If you're talking about the St Helens tree farm, it didn't sell out, but they had a deadline to purchase permits. They had 15,000 permits available but only sold around 4,000. I'm not sure why they feel there needs to be a deadline?

Vail and Pe Ell both sold out in minutes. So if you want one of those next year you better be quick.

Winston unit. The amount of people that are limited to go into the gate. In the past, it was opened for rifle hunters to drive in. This year, it appears the only way in is with a permit and a key. With a limit on pressure, I am simply guessing that the quality of animals and hunt will go up. At least that is my experience in areas that you have to mountain bike into. Less people, less pressure usually means a better hunt.

Have you had any experience with the permit system? If so, was it a positive experience or negative and why? More people, less people, etc.

The Weyco areas I am familiar with still have a decent amount of pressure with the permits that were sold.
Lots more than if it were gated for walk/bike in only (which is what I really wish they would do with more areas).
Charlie Kirk didn't speak hate, they hated what he said. Don't get it twisted.
