Smoker help...

Asking for opinions.  I built this cold smoker with the idea of someday getting it setup for hot smoke /cooking.  I've resurrected a rusty wood stove to use as my heat/smoke source.  I've sunk the stove as deep as I could but it still creates quite an arc with the stove pipe to mate with my smoker pipe.   do you think this will work or should I look to cut a new hole in the side of the stove and cap the top?

It will work....Smoke will be pushed easily through the pipe.

Can you put a 90 as the first piece coming off the stove and then reduce to the smaller pipe ? Then you could use flex pipe to couple to the built in pipe.

I'll check the hardware store again and see if they have a ninety that will fit.  I'm thinking the bends will get pretty hot...

Thanks.  I use the same product when cold smoking.  I'm going to try to use the stove for hot smoking.

Lay the stove on it's back side.

 Normally all flue or vent pipes need a 1/4" rise per foot for max draft.  You may get alot of condensation with your set up.   

 I think using 6" pipe and reduce to 4" at the last joint may work better.  Be sure to burn off all that nasty galvanizing with a hot fire before you taint your smoker.

Thanks for the help.  Found a flange piece that worked to limit the arc.  Cleaned the pipes and ran a hot fire for a few hours.  I got a ton of good smoke but only reached 90 degrees.  Looks like the Lopi will just serve as another source of smoke for cold smokin'. I'll have to smoke them in the box and cook them in the earth oven.

Nice, I use to use flexible metal dryer hose on my old smoker, worked great.

Yep, I'm getting condensation running down the pipe.  Hind sight: had I built the smoker rock base around the stove I could have also done hot smoking .... Aargh.

What Temps are you getting?
You can add a cheap single burner on the bottom of the smoker for those times you need a little more heat.

It's cool looking and will make a great conversation piece. I'm surprised the temp doesn't come up more.
