New Duck Call
« on: July 27, 2015, 11:08:05 PM »
Hello, I'm looking at getting a new duck call before season starts up. I bought a zink atm green machine last year and love it. Good loud double reed call. I'm looking to add a better single reed call to my lanyard that can get loud/low and can sound like different hen mallards. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

Pacific calls

That's what I would recommend. If you are in the Spokane area you can stop by their shop and they will custom make one for you and tune it to your liking. If you talk to them through facebook they have a lot more color combos then they show on their website. Honestly some of the nicest guys I have met in a long time.

I have a NBG Zink and like it a lot. Blow it most of the time. If you like the ATM I would imagine the NBG would be well liked also.

Hop on Ebay, search for "duck call" in hunting and then sort by items ending soonest.  Be patient and you will be amazed at the number of calls that you can pick up for next to nothing.

JJ Lares, RNT, Bill Saunders all have some good single reed options that you would be happy with.  Stop by a Cabela's or Sportsmans and run a few to see what fits your style of calling and ability.
Cut em!

Check out "Call Nutz","Duck Call Trader" on Face Book some amazing custom calls from guys getting into call making and there are some real deals.
Troy Taylor makes a great custom call he's in the Puyallup area. I've got a few of his, he can build it anyway you want it, Competition to small pothole. I also like RMC calls, the Gold digger.
Just like there are many models of cars and truck and some people debate ford vs chevy you'll find that with duck calls. What works for you might not work for me. If you get a call make sure you get extra reeds and cork. Don't be afraid to trim your own reeds. Cork needs to be changed out during the season as it can dry out or the substitute cork which is sanoprene which folks say they can tell the difference if any but doesn't need to be changed.  Hint don't ever mess with the original reed that came with the call. Gives you a baseline go back too when you are trimming your own reeds and mark the outside of the reed. Reeds have a "spine" to them and you want to make sure you have the curve facing away from the tone board. Getting it reversed the call can sound like crap.
