Biking in
« on: August 06, 2015, 10:31:35 AM »
Hey guys,

I'm looking at biking in about 8 miles this year for both deer and bear. My question is: What is the best way that you have found to carry your rifle in while on a bicycle? I have an external frame backpack, but it isn't specifically for hunting so no spot to hold your rifle. Any and all ideas appreciated. Thanks.
They're gonna be where you find 'em

A rifle and bow holder that attaches to your handlebars.

I put a set of these on my MT Bike a few months ago and so far, so good.  I use mine for a bow but I'm pretty certain it would hold a rifle just fine; ATV Tek VFGH V-Grip Rider Handlebar Rack.  They are around 30 bones on Amazon I think.

Nice set up guys but I can't stand something on my bars seems to throw my balance off, so I use a Eberlestock Lo Drag pack that holds the rifle right next to my back for quick access and keeps the rifle safe and contained. Also here's a way to pack something out!

I wear mine tight over my back. I had it on my handle bars at one time when I first started using a bike, but after crashing I quit doing it. I dont like feel comfortable with all the shaking, and vibration it takes either on the handle bars. :twocents:

I have used the handle bar mounts for my bow for the past 5 years w/o any accuracy issues, however I ended up six inches off at 100yds the only year I used the bars for my rifle. Just one guys experience no rifle on the bars for me. I see guys on here with nicer guns and presumably more dead animals to their credit then me with their rifle on the bars, so who knows?

Id be worried that all the rattling around on the handlebars would loosen every bolt/screw on my bow or rifle.. Anyone??
I usually throw mine in my pack and I'm off!

use a sling for your gun. Besides you'll need the bike for the animal. put the deer/bear on the bike with the small gutting hole over the seat, tie the legs to the seat post, tie the head and front legs to the handle bars and walk it out.

I had a scope on a rifle I lent to a buddy go loose from me riding it on the bars during deer season. He got a decent bull with it opening morning of elk season, but just barely :chuckle:

Crashes happen to. At least in my experience they do from time to time. For the worst case scenario I want the rifle tight to my back. That's the only way I carry rifle or bow now after trying basically every system available the last 20 years or so.  :twocents:

I bought a rifle scabbard from NC Star for under $30 and attached it to my rear rack. Holds 7mm perfect. Friend of mine cut a cloth bow case in half attached it to his rear rack and works good too.
