Composite decking
« on: August 05, 2016, 08:56:15 AM »
Finishing up an addition on the house, and need to put decking on the new deck, and replace failed composite on the existing deck. Any experience/ recommendation for brands and/ or lines within a brand. Staring at the decking display at HD or BMC is a bit overwhelming!
Thanks

I used Timbertech at my cabin and loved it.  My inlaws used it at their house and feel the same.

@haugenna and @jackelope  should both have some input on this stuff as well.

I have a somewhat gigantic deck covered in Timbertech and have been very happy with it.
@haugenna is the man regarding this topic. He'll spew info for days if you let him.

One thing I did learn after the fact is that the hardware you use is super important.

That was fast.  You are going to win mod of the week with that kind of response time.

Before Haugenna chimes in I will say that this stuff was super easy to work with and the guys at Dunn Lumber were super helpful getting me parts and pieces.

I did not, I drilled and anchored through the top with the drill/countersink tool.  I was concerned with the clips breaking over time.  The clips are a much cleaner look and maybe I was just paranoid.

I didn't either. Used screws. I used decking boards on my railings for caps and the screws were essentially too stiff and broke rather than flexed a little for expansion/contraction. I need to replace the screws with stainless screws so there's a little give. It's on my to-do list. You can see where the boards popped up with the broken screws.
