Bullet ID, What are they?
«
on:

Found these in my parents basement. Dad was in Korean war, so might be from that era.
Anybody know what they are? or what the clip thingys are?

30-06 Springfield cartridges and a 30 carbine. Clip thingys are parts of a machine gun belt.

30-06. I think the 42 is for the year it was made.Maybe ap ammo.DO NOT SHOOT IT.you have to measure it ,compare it with other 30-06 ammo first. This is just my guess off of a Google search , so I don't really know.

They look like .50 bullets and belt links. The others are 30-36 and a .30 Carbine the DM stands for Des Moines arsenal

Highly corrosive, so any gun you shoot it out of,better dump the gun oil on it after shooting.

.50 caliber bullets
.30-06 and .30 Carbine rounds
The links look to small to be for a Ma Deuce. They appear to be .30 caliber links to me.

Another note since his dad was in the Korean war. The top projectiles are .50BMG and links for the M-2 (MADUCE). We were still unsung the Browning 1919 with the cloth linkage system we did not use the a standard link system for .30 cal until the M-60. Yes their were some variations but not adapted as standard.

50BMG, I just found out we did have linked .30 cal's. Look at the photo of the lower link next to the tape measurer it looks like 1/2 inch or .50.

Thanks guys. Was thinking the ones were 30 06, but seemed like a lot of lead hanging out.

Look at the link above it. The part of the link that measures 1/2" is larger than the other end. The smaller end goes on the neck, the larger goes just below the shoulder. So if the large end goes over the shoulder of the case it'd have to be more than the caliber. I've got some links saved around here somewhere, if I knew where I'd measure them. I could be remembering wrong, my machine gunner days were long ago.
