Idaho Units 5-18
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:27:56 PM »
Looking to try hunting Idaho next year for mule deer, modern firearm general season in units 5-18 around Lewiston. I was wondering about hunter density, accessibility and areas to try.

I could also try archery but I really want to use my rifle. I dont mind hiking in or roughing it.  Looking for an area where I wont run into too many other hunters.

Most of those units are draw only for mule deer. The otc tags have a few mule deer but not many unless you have permission on the private ground

You will more than likely starve during the winter as a result of trying to find a mule deer in some of the units you mentioned.

Lol, I have never explored that area very much but saw mulies in the hills around lewiston. So is it mostly whitetail through there? Is there a unit you would recommend for otc mulies non resident?

I recommend speaking with the biologists and spending gas money to scout.

That's what I did.

I’d look at the regs to see what units have otc mule deer hunting to start. In the units that you listed the ones with decent mule deer populations are all draw.
