So got  back from a weekend scout trip.  Been up a couple times and this one was by far the most productive.  Which was a bit of a shock because I didnt expect a ton since the weather was hot and the moon was full.
Woke up early Saturday and first two elk we saw were the biggest I have ever seen.  One was a typical 6x6 that was so wide and long that he literally was scratching his ass as he walked through the trees.  His buddy, a 6x8, was even bigger.  He had mass, width, and the best front I have ever seen.  Plus trash!!!!  I tried my darndest to get video or pics, but they were in a nasty thick burn area and even though we were 60 yards away, the videos on my phone suck.
We ended up seeing lots of bulls and even more cows.  It was somewhat of a new area and I was not disappointed.  Put a few cameras out and we'll wait and see what shows up.  Put on lots of miles on the boots and figured out a couple spots to add to the plan a through j.  Heard a bugle in the middle of the night and I'm getting stoked for this season to come.

So here is a question for you more experienced elk hunters.  With the rut starting in just a couple weeks, will the bulls I saw this weekend stay in the same general area or could they move way out of dodge?

And trophyhunt, I knew to be vague on details and thought that what I had said was pretty vague because there is a lot of areas that I could have been describing ;).  Thanks for the heads up though.

Man I am getting nervous about this tag.

They will be where the hot cows are. So yes, they could be right where they were if some cows come in to heat. If not, they could be anywhere.

Right now I would be locating as many groups of cows as possible.

  lots of pressure with these kind of tags, I’d tell you to relax and enjoy, but I know I couldn’t !  Just get to know your weapon as well as you can if you haven’t already. Shoot a bunch and be prepared, maybe have a spare ram rod Incase you break yours or lose it.  And I’d be using shooting sticks like the Jim shocker trigger sticks, sticks are a must in my opinion.

Nervous!!! You should be jumping with joy that you have one of the best tags this state has to offer!  :IBCOOL: Make sure your buddy is packing your gun so you don’t shoot a 320” bull opening  morning  :chuckle:
