Shoot or No Shot 2020 – Episode #2
« on: March 03, 2020, 09:01:55 AM »
Tag: Bull tag
Season/Hunt: Archery, partner hunt
Time/Date/Location: 16 September, 5:40 PM; in an elk state
Camp/gear: Base camp.

You are the shooter in a cold calling setup. Your buddy (caller) is behind you, off to your left a bit, about 25 yards and has successfully called this guy in from your 3 o’clock, across the small opening, to a point where the bull stops and decides to advertise his bullhood a bit by thrashing a small fir sapling. You know its 35 yards to the bent over pine that the elk has so rudely stopped on the other side of. It's the 5th day of your 10 day hunt and light wind (thermals actually) is/are blowing as shown from where you are located. You're on your knees at full draw with good cover to your back, in the direction of the yellow arrow.

Shoot or no shot here?

Reminder that if you save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, you'll be able to place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg and add the marked up pic with your post.

I should wait, but usually when I wait for a better chance they manage to go away with even less of an oppertunity. :'( so I am going to aim right here.

Do you see that RACK!  Im shooting and throwing rocks!   No but its best to wait for caller to move him some more and try and get a closer and better shot.  Tough one but not ideal shot placement presented.  Just turn a bit buddy??

why would you wait ?   you've been practicing all spring/summer long shooting at golf tees and at 35 yards with basically no wind you can keep your shots into the size of a playing card...near leg is forward so this is definitely not a "pull and pray" moment.  Let er fly and in 12 seconds he is stone dead.  Helluva pack out but the cold beers at the end and backstraps are worth it

Well, that pine tree springing back at just the wrong moment could definitely mess up the best shot, but already at full draw and aim I'm releasing NOW!
