Did some patterning with the Benelli 20 gauge nova

Went did some shooting today with my Carlson longbeard Xr turkey choke in .568 restriction tried Winchester longbeard Xr, remington nitro, federal premium,Winchester double x and Kent all number 5 shot as that is all I could find. They all shot high and to the left had a little luck with the remington and Winchester longbeard xr the gun jammed twice on a Winchester Xr shell not sure why never had this happen before but I always shot a 870 remington. Got some hevi shot 5,6,7 to try. May need to try a different choke I guess. Had 5 or 6 hits with remington nitro and longbeard Xr I would not say that is a good pattern tried shooting lower at the base of the neck did seem to make much difference. Going to get some federal tss in number 7 to try and maybe a primos jellyhead choke tube.

Get an adjustable fiber sight, or a red dot and set it high and left an you'll be dead on. The Longbeard shells tend to lengthen more than other hulls in my experience. We had issues with 3 1/2 shells sticking in the chamber after being fired. Might be the same issue for you. But seriously, get a sight you can adjust and are comfortable out to 30 or more yards with.

I teach people  that to always aim at the neck just about around the waddle.  If you gun shoots high you will still have a good chance of a kill shot if your aiming at the neck.   I shoot Hevi-shot Magnum Blend.

If all of them are high and left you might be canting the gun?  A field gun should be shooting 50/50 to 60/40 Where you shooting off a bench?

Also what did you think of those Kents?  I say them at Sportsmans Warehouse and they were half the price of Rem and Win.

As SPkid said the Jam is likely from steel based hulls.  They are the worst thing that has happened to ammo in years.

pattern pics?  and this is a common Benelli trait, high n left.. i found this out the hard way myself. for turkey, i now have a speed bead that pinches between stock and action, not requiring any action machining or smith work.. 3moa red dot. amazing the difference and easily removed when not running turkeys if you choose.

the rage back east is running an ultralight tristar 410 now... 9.5tss loads. attached is the kind of performance they are achieving! my future may hold one. imagine toting around a 4# shotgun all day on the move....

Yep high and left with the longbeard Xr #5. Got some magnum blend hevi shot 5,6,7 and federal tss#7 for a remington 870 20 gauge to try as well in the benelli to. Got a Carlson tss choke in .555 restriction for the remington 870 to try with federal tss there spendy hopeful they throw a good pattern!

In my non-expert opinion, you are over-choked for #5's and will probably get much better results with smaller shot from that tight of a choke.  Time will tell as you pattern it more with that choke and I'd be interested in the results if you'd share.

Nonsense. No such thing in the turkey forum. I'm waiting for turkey chokes to get 6" long and have the exit diameter of a .22. That's turkey hunting right there, take you out to 150 yards with tss

I can row in that 410 boat, my shot choice so far has been a 3 inch, 50+ year old #6 at less than 20 yards.

Haha, fair enough    I think I've already spent too much money on guns, chokes, red dot sights,  loads, etc....  I've killed plenty of turkeys with a beaded shotgun and high brass #6's but I'm on the "more is better" train too...
