Those engines come stock with 365 hp and 450 lbs torque. Keep the stock air cleaner, good for 500 hp and only use ac delco or racor fuel filters. They are by far the best for that system unless possibly going with Fass Or Air Dog. Change the external Allison tranny filter every other oil change. No need to run synthetic oil in them because they are so easy on oil.

I remember way back when the Dmax was first introduced. All the Ford and Dodge guys just knew the Dmax wouldn’t succeed with aluminum heads  :chuckle:.

Just my opinion but the Dmax has proven to be a hell of an engine.  I love my LML.

Love my 2006 only issues I have had are the tranny cooler lines leaking and a check engine light for the turbo guide vanes. Check engine light will be fixed soon with the egr delete, tuner and new turbo.

Any reason NOT to run Chevron Delo in my Duramax?

I see I can get Amsoil synthetic for only $128/gallon.......      :yike: :yike: :yike:

No, Its good oil. Personally I run Delvac. Its really good oil and pretty cheap. These engines are very easy on oil and synthetic is not necessary. Although some people like to run Rotella t6.  Ive always ran Wix oil filters but after looking at a filter comaparison I think I will switch to Baldwin B1441 filters when I am out of the Wix filters.

I had to replace my tranny cooler lines, noticed them leaking when I bought it.  I was able to buy them and install myself, not too bad of a job.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

And oh yeah, the ‘06/LBZ is the very last diesel pickup made that did not require DEF additive! One less thing to worry about.

You’re mistaken.

No need for a lift pump for stock or mild mods. You’re Talking about the extra filtration maybe, in which case a lift pump is beneficial if pulling through multiple filters.
That said, both fass and air dog are expensive crap.
OP, just leave your truck alone and it’ll treat you fine.

Dano, great find.
Just use quality filters and change the trans filter regularly. Every other oil change, they’re cheap.
And swap trans fluid for Castrol Transynd. It’s regarded as the best fluid for Allis by far.
So much so that back in the day Alli would extend warranties on trucks that swapped to Transynd early.

Your correct. I wouldnt put a lift pump on a stock LBZ either. I was just mentioning that in case the previous owner already did.

Transynd is excellent tranny fluid for the Allison. John Deere and others used to sell it rebranded for cheaper but i dont know if you can still get it. I run Mobil 1 Delvac. Its TES 295 approved and from what Ive read on the Duramax forums is on par with the Transynd. You cant go wrong with either.

I believe it was in 2010. Had an 08 and it was DEF free from factory.
