Grouse with a trad bow?
« on: October 17, 2021, 12:25:57 PM »
So Iíve always wanted to hunt grouse and this year I actually got to take a crack at it. And I discovered something lol theyíre mighty skittish.

How in the hell do you get anywhere near these little *censored*s to shoot at em?!?! Lol

If anyone has any tips for hunting these delicious looking forest chickens with a longbow Iíd appreciate it!

I live in the greater Longview area if that helps!

Hope everyone is having an excellent and safe hunting season!

Hunt hard shoot straight!

Iíve killed quite a few with my trad bows, shoot for the body not the head! Haha Iíve missed a lot shooting for the head and they always duck it! But usually itís just a matter of getting them to fly into a tree or seeing them in the bushes tucked down thinking theyíre invisible.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

I've tried a couple of times. My problem was finding the birds. I usually end up stump shooting.

My friend got tired of losing his arrows when he missed so he got out a can of orange spray paint and painted them so they are easier to see.

Lol I had a quail duck an arrow from 10 yards once, and I just stood there flabbergasted. Wish I had reflexes like that!

Yeah I guess itís just gonna take time and finding good places to go!

Spray paining the arrow is a great idea! I donít have too much trouble with my flu flus though.

Iím with you, Iím still trying to find reliable places to go! Iíve been told thereís great hunting in my area lol but not where
