filmed three bucks still in velvet.   two were smaller.  wonder if this was a stag.

My guess would be eating an alkaloid containing weed and restricting blood flow and hormone effects when we were off the charts dry.  Especially if several were about

Yeah you usually see several in the same area when they have that issue. His bases must be bigger than a beer can!  Shrunken testicles and still in velvet. Is this near Portland or Seattle? Maybe San Francisco?

I was pretty close.  He was bedded so I was able to close the distance.

I've heard them called cactus bucks even though they don't have the classic barrel cactus shaped mass.  We shot a 3x3 in late October in Montana that had the same dried up crappy looking velvet - the meat smelled and tasted very licorice/rutty.  Still good though... probably why some people say Mule Deer is 'gamey'.
