Tuna Fishing Report
« on: May 13, 2022, 02:42:05 PM »
Made a last minute trip to San Diego last week for a tuna trip with a friend and HW member. We did the 1.75 day trip on a party boat with 25 spots. Loaded the boat with nice blue fin tuna to 150#s. Hope to go again this year down there on a 6 pack boat with some friends. If you have a recommendation for San Diego let me know. The trip was fun but pretty crazy with 25 lines in the water. I have had a couple poke bowls this week and the tuna is amazing.

we ended up with around 60 pounds of processed tuna per person. They have a great processor that fillets and vacuum packs for fights out same day. Worth every penny.

Now seems to be good. It was my first trip and from what I understand the blue fin normally don't come in this close for 2 day trips. If you google San Diego tuna reports it has the month by month counts on various boats. It looks like they get bigger ones later in the season but a boat might only get a few jumbos and nothing else. It is different then fishing here since you have to bring your own gear or rent. Some guys showed up with 6 full setups and jumbo tackle boxes. Reminds me of the guys that show up at the gun club with a full arsenal of weaponry. The 1.75 day trip was super cheap at 500$ plus what ever food, drink and tip you decide on.
