Happy Saturday. Back from the Quinault on Thursday. Had a fantastic hunt with 2 good friends.
Couldn’t have done it without them. It’s been a hot season, and we didn’t see an elk in our unit on the opener. Day 2 day we got on a herd with 5 bulls and lots of cows. Trailed them for 2 and a half hours before I was able to get a shot. I ended up taking a 150 yard off hand shot in a creek near the park line. I was nervous and said a quick prayer. The first shot hammered him in the high shoulder. He fell to his knees and got back up. A quick second lung shot put him away. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this bull.
He was the herd bull, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. Took the bull to my taxidermist. He hasn’t measured him, but he said he looks to be right at 300. 300 or 295, I couldn’t be happier. After 24 years of putting in, I got the hunt I always dreamed of.
